USAF CV-22 pilots to get Elbit helmet displays

Elbit Systems of America has won a contract to supply colour helmet-mounted displays (HMD) for the US Air Force Special Operations Command's (AFSOC) BellBoeing CV-22B tiltrotor fleet.
Under a deal with Boeing Military Aircraft, Israel-based Elbit's US subsidiary will couple its helmet display and tracking system technology with new colour symbology for day and night operations, including with night vision goggles.
"The contract will allow Elbit Systems of America to provide the US Air Force with a colour HMD that includes full helmet tracking capability, and effectively meets AFSOC objectives in the near and long-term," said parent company Elbit Systems in a 6 September announcement.
The new equipment will boost crew situational awareness by allowing them to fly "heads up and eyes out", it added.
Work will be performed in Fort Worth, Texas, with the equipment to be based on Elbit's ANVIS/HUD system already used by the US armed services' rotary-wing and tiltrotor communities.
The USAF has an active inventory of 19 CV-22Bs, as listed in Flightglobal's HeliCAS database
